Spiritual Thought Sunday and my crazy Saturday Night! (Day 3)

Happy Sunday Everyone!

I hope your day has been relaxing and uplifting.  In our church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we switch our start time each year.  Last year we started at 9:00 am and this year we get to start our meetings at 11:00 am where I live.  It is different in every meeting house.  My days seem a little bit shorter as we all sleep in just a bit longer. 🙂  I’m not complaining, though, as we had a surprise visit at the ER last night!

So….. here’s the story, if you are interested.  My 17 year old and I were about to run out and get a quick bite to eat at around 9:30 pm, since we were having a lazy day.

(Aren’t we so cute!?  She is going to be in college next year so I am trying to spend as much time with her as possible!)

Right as we were about to walk out the door, Brayden started crying and running to the bathroom.  As a mom you learn the different meanings for each cry.  Some you know aren’t real, some are not that serious, and some are REALLY BAD!  This was the latter.  This was the type of cry where you stop what you are doing, hop up and run after your child.  We don’t have those as often anymore but every once in a while we get a fun surprise.

I run into the bathroom and there is blood everywhere.  I am not good in that type of scenario, so it’s nice that Bryan was able to access the situation.  I think I might have even blacked out a little (but don’t tell anyone!).  Long story short was that he was going to need stitches.

We get to the after hours clinic and it was closed so we knew we had to take him to Provo to the ER.  We got there and were very blessed that he was able to be seen right away.  No waiting time at all!  ***BLESSING***

After they checked him in, the doctor arrived and got a closer look.  Turns out he was cut in 3 different spots.  2 on his ear (which I won’t go into detail because it really grosses me out but Karlee and my sister both wanted a picture!  EWWWWW!!) and then one on his head, which we weren’t aware of.  The ear took 8 stitches and the head was 3 but in a really tough spot.  I will need to take him to his doctor on Tuesday morning to make sure it is healing properly and not infected.  YIKES!!

What had happened was that his 13 year old brother was fake hitting him and Brayden pulled his head back really hard on the corner of our counter tops (which aren’t even that pointy!).  It hit SUPER hard!  We are lucky he didn’t have a concussion, too!

This was taken at the hospital before and during the procedure.  He was so brave and so strong.  They had to give him many, many, many numbing shots (which hurt the most!)  He was so cute and kept asking the nurses and doctor all sorts of questions.  His favorite part was watching the Disney Channel and when the doctor said he probably shouldn’t shower or bath for a week so his ear doesn’t risk getting wet!  LOL!!
I have to tell you some of the deep thoughts that I had while I was holding his hand in the hospital and watching him in pain.  I wondered how so many of you have to go through this all the time!  I thought of how many amazing people there are out there who sit by their child’s, parent’s, or friend’s bedsides day after day and help them get through really hard things.   My heart goes out to all of you!  May the Lord bless and watch over you daily.
Brayden wanted to go to church today and show all of his friends his stitches.  I guess it’s kind of like a badge of honor with little boys (and maybe even big boys!)  I walked him to his class and made sure that his teachers knew that he needed to be careful and not bump anything or anyone.  I was probably more nervous than anyone else!  The doctor said it was really close to the cartilage and we needed to be super careful.
Here is Brayden a couple of hours after church.  He was so good about making sure that he put the ice on it so it would help it heal better.  Then I came over and he was sound asleep.  We got home just before midnight so I’m sure he was exhausted!
Church today was FANTASTIC!  It was the oil I needed for my lamp.  I always feel so uplifted after I attend my classes.  In the 3rd hour we meet with just the ladies in our church.  It is called Relief Society.  Today our lesson was on accepting our imperfections.  Last week we talked about Grace and how we could not or ever will be perfect without our savior, Jesus Christ.  This week we talked about how many things we, as women, have going on in our lives.  Here are some of the items we listed on the board…
laundry and house work
kids’ homework
health problems
teenagers
little kids
being a taxi driver
dinner
bedtime
work
husbands
bills
deadlines
service
etc., etc.,
We need to make sure that we are doing something for US on a daily basis.  We need to make sure we have oxygen before giving it to our family.  We need oil in our lamps before we can let our lights shine for others to see.  I am grateful that I have crafting as an outlet for me.  I also think that playing tennis or exercising helps me be a better mom, wife, and friend.  When we are so focused on all the things we need to get done we start to feel overwhelmed and down on ourselves for what we didn’t get done!  We need to remember that we should “not run faster or labor more than we have strength…”  The Lord has made us who we are for a reason.  Some women ARE able to do it all, or so it may seem but we honestly won’t know unless we walk in their shoes.  I know that I do not have the strength and energy to do it all right now and I may never have that strength but I do know that I am who I am for a reason AND there is much I can do for my family and friends.
That’s my spiritual thought for the week!  I hope you will take something from it and use it in your lives.  Here it is in a nutshell….
DO SOMETHING FOR YOU!  Whether it is a walk, reading a book, making a craft, taking a bubble bath…..  Recharge your battery!  That’s an order!  🙂
Before I sign off for today I wanted to share what I look like when I have to check on my chickens in the middle of winter!  It is STINKIN’ FREEZING outside here!!  I bundle up and check on them about 3 times each and every day.  We do not have a light for them in the coop but they are still producing about 6-8 eggs a day, which is great!  Even though it is Sunday, I still need to check on my babies and make sure everything is okay.  Bryan snapped this pic today before dinner.  We still have tons of snow up where I live even though it hasn’t really snowed since Christmas.  It doesn’t melt here much when it is cold!  YIKES!  The good thing is that we can still drive in it here unlike in Oklahoma.  (My chicken coop is pictured behind me.)
Have a great Sunday everyone!  I hope you all know how grateful I am for YOU!!
Hugs,
Robyn

If a parent never ends up in the ER with a child they are very lucky. Children seem to handle it better than the parents sometimes. Our daughter ripped her knee open in an accident and I had to leave the room or I would be getting stitches too as they thought I was going to pass out! Glad your son is okay and will soon be healed!

I thank you for your thoughts on those who know all to well what it's like to support others in illness. It shows your character. I also really enjoyed that you shared what you learned at church, I am sure that one of your spiritual gifts is your ability to convey such meaning through your writing. I look forward to more Spiritual Thought Sunday.

Thanks, so much for your words of wisdom. My friend and I was talking yesterday at church how we have to have "me time". Some ladies can keep on going like the energizer bunny, not me.

So glad your little guy wasn't hurt worse than he was. Prayers for healing.

While the ER visit is a scary thing for us moms, it sounds like Brayden is on the mend! This summer, a steer 'ran over' my son while he, my husband and father-in-law were working cattle. My son ended up with a cut just under his eyebrow, and it bled like crazy and, yes and ER visit and stitches were what was needed. It's very scary for us moms when the kids are hurt! But I'm sure Brayden will be better before you know it!

Thanks for sharing the your reflections on recharging our batteries. I'm horribly guilty of not taking care of me until it's just too much. Your post was just what I needed to read this morning. Thank you.

Robyn, thank you for your words of encouragement. Emergencies are never ever fun. Glad that Brayden is doing ok. Have a wonderful day.

Thanks for sharing all of this. Thankful your son is ok, but emergencies are never fun!! I'm currently reading The Fringe Hours, and it talks just about this. Another one I just read was For the Love, and it's similar. But the first more so for how we spend our time. Have a super week Robyn!

Glad that Brayden is OK and going to heal; so good to hear that it wasn't more serious. Yes, you are right that we need to count our blessings as there are many who do not have what we do. Loved hearing about the chickens, as I was wondering what they did in the winter! Have a good day.

Robyn, I'm so glad your little guy is ok. What a scare that must have been. Good news that he didn't have a concussion. God bless all of you. Thanks for your message today. We do tend to forget to take time for ourselves.

    Big hugs,

Thank you for your post. My bff and I were just talking about this the other day, how taking time to workout, do devotions, and just hang out makes us better wives and mothers. Our Heavenly Father wants us to take good care of our temples.
