Happy Thanks-Christmas!

Happy Thanks-Christmas Everyone???

LOL!  What in the world am I talking about, right?  Well, today I woke up earlier than I thought and was in the mood to get things organized.  I went through my kids' baby clothes that I have been hanging onto (we won't even go into the tears I shed during that process!) and then I found the Christmas decorations!  I thought, why not??!!  We usually put them up the weekend after Thanksgiving but Karlee's family will be here next week (they arrive on Wednesday, yay!) and we wouldn't be able to put them up until the following Monday night.  I decided since we didn't really have much planned today, why not just do it!  So I did!!  LOL!!

My friend, Mary, encouraged me to buy a bunch of garland last year at Hobby Lobby after Christmas when they were all on sale.  I have NEVER done that kind of Christmas decor before.  She was planning on helping me put it all up this year but her family moved out of state last month.  Boo hoo!!  So..... I had to figure it out by myself with the help of google and texting my friend!  LOL!  I am so happy with how it all turned out!!  What do you think??

BEFORE: With just the plain garland.

AFTER:  With the added embellishments!

With the Christmas music playing, I was in the mood to go back to Hobby Lobby and get more decorations!!  I made this table display all by myself!  Aren't you proud of me?  I am sooooo much more of a paper creator and not good at home decor.  I think it turned out super awesome though!

Then, of course, we had to pull down the tree and decorate it!  My husband thinks that when Karlee's family gets here on Wednesday they are going to think it is Christmas and not Thanksgiving!  LOL!!

By the way, Walmart is starting their Black Friday on Thursday at 8:00 PM this year!!  It is earlier and earlier every year!!

I also wanted to share this thought on Twinkies!  Funny how since I've had children I have NEVER bought Twinkies for my kids because I grew up with them and thought they might be a little unhealthy BUT now that Hostess has gone out of business I have found myself searching the store shelves for them.  Unfortunately they are all GONE and a $2.50 box of Twinkies is now going for over $100 on Ebay!  Isn't that super funny???

Have a great weekend!!

  1. As usual I am very disappointed that Walmart continues to ignore the families of its employees. I hope people will NOT give up their own Thanksgiving day to take away that of the employees!

  2. That's a really good point! I heard that some WM employees will be walking out this year. It's getting crazier and crazier!

  3. Your garland is gorgeous Robyn. I agree, I think it is so unfair to people that have to work on Black Friday, I mean, they have families too and I'm sure would love to spend time with them. Retailers are getting way out of hand, they just care about making money, they do not care about their employees. It's such a shame.

  5. Your decorations turned out lovely! I actually work at Walmart and a few of us are joking around calling it Orange Thursday now since you can't really call it Black Friday! Although Walmart has always been open on Thanksgiving its just that now more people have to be scheduled to work the sale.

  6. Well, first of all, your home is gorgeous. You did a fantastic job of decorating. I'm a little disappointed at all the rush for Black Friday. It kind of takes away from the meaning of Thanksgiving. Hope you have a wonderful time with Karlee and her family!!

  15. Your holiday decorations are beautiful. When ypu shop the after Christmas sales this year may I suggest buying some garland swags. Two friends and myself decorate our former pathologist's house each year. We do the garland on her banistersmuch like yours but swoop it down evenly on the way down. We put the decorated swags on the top straight part where the garland swoops up. It sets that top part off just beautifully. For your first time you did this so great. We have been doing her house for about 10-12 years. As for the working on this holiday or any other, as I work in a hospital lab Holidays and weekends are just part of the job. People come in 24 hours a day 7 days a week with everything from real reasons to go to the ER to I partyed too hardy and don't want to go to work Monday. Give me a work excuss. Point blank more of the latter than the real stuff takeing up our time from dealing with the real. Starting at noon on Sunday the waiting room fills to the brim with the Get me out of work crowd.

  16. Robin, this is so funny... I had to tell you... since I have had children I haven't bought or even thought about Twinkies...
When I heard they went out of business... I was like ... oh my word... the kids have never had one, we have to go find one and let them have one... I mean its a twinkie... right??? They have to know what a Twinkie was for crying out loud...
Well... we never did find a box :(

  17. Beautiful garland...I always put up garland on my stairs...it really makes the house festive!! Lee-Ann :)
ps...as for Twinkies...never eaten one...and wouldn't feed them to my kids. If we eat baking...it's homemade...well...I have bought the rare bags of Oreos...but...who can resist an Oreo.

As to WalMart...they are open all day like so many other stores. I wish they would all close down for the day to give all of us a small break from the hustle and bustle of the holdays to remember what these holidays rreally mean.
Thanks for sharing your home with all of us. God Bless.

  19. LOVE IT! A girl after my own heart! I would do the same but I have to ease into it. Hubby isn`t as ready as I am for decorating. I am working on him though. You have the perfect staircase for it.

  23. Love ALL the decorations. My friends in Michigan take the entire family to get their real Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving and then spend the day decorating it as well as having the grand children decorate their miniature tree. It's their tradition.

  25. There is only one word for the garland......GORGEOUS! I want a staircase now. I don't care that I live in a one-story house and the staircase would lead to nowhere. It would be covered in beautiful garland at Christmas just like yours and that's all that matters. lol :)

  26. Love the decorations! I've been in an early Christmas mood myself. I think I may have the house decorated before we leave for thanksgiving dinner! Happy Holiday!
