The Storm

Last night was just an ordinary night for me and my kids.  We did our night routine and sent them on their way.  I stayed up too late working on a blog post and other My Pink Stamper stuff.  Around 1:00 am I settled down in my bed and decided to read for a few minutes when I heard the lightening and thunder begin.  At first it seemed normal but then I heard sounds on my windows and the side of my house! I got up and checked out my front door and it looked like a tornado was hitting us!!  I tried to wake my husband but he was really out (I'm known for overreacting).  I then went to check our back yard and discovered that a huge tree had broken and was in our pool!!  I woke him again and we both agreed to wake the children and bring then downstairs in case we needed to go to our shelter.  Crazy part was that since this was not a tornado, the sirens were not going off.  They should have!  The storm died down and everyone went back to sleep but this is what we woke up to this morning.

I also woke up to my 4 year old saying "I'm ready to go to school!!"

Here is some of the destruction in my town....  Remember that this was NOT a tornado!!  The damage is the same in some areas, though.

Hope you all have a GREAT day!  My husband is actually looking forward to using our chainsaw to clean up our mess.  He's only used it to help with tornado damage in another town.  I'm ready to pull it out today, too, but Karlee thinks I should wait until someone who knows how to use it comes home.  :)

Thank your lucky stars that the tree didn't hit your house. Those storms can come up so quickly. Be safe and God bless.

We had a small tornado pass through our neighborhood a few months ago and did some damage to our tree too. It fell right into the pool but took our grill down with it. the really scary part is that the grill is attached to the gas line and I had to run out there in the middle of everything to turn off the gas. It is so scary. I'm so glad you are all ok!

Oh my that sounds like what happened in my area 3 years ago but ours was much worse : (! They called it strait line winds, it is like a tornado but without the rotation! Most of our area was without power for upto 5 days! I worked at JewelOsco (a food & drug store) and we were the only large store open for almost a day! Glad everyone in your town is safe!

We had a bad thunderstorm come through and make that kind of destruction..we had BIG trees down all over..and it was only 60mph wind gusts!! Glad you and your family are ok..

Oh wow Robyn, I'm glad you and your family are ok. You are right, those sirens or some other warning system should have gone off during a storm that was capable of producing that much damage.

That storm was pretty wicked last night. I heard it too as I was settling to go to bed myself, and turned on the weather to make sure it wasn't something more, but turned out to be just lots of wind, thunder and lightening. Glad that this was the only damage, and that you and the kids are alright! I think a tree in my pool with be the end of the line or me and this pool... crazy thing has a leak I can't find... ugh!

WOW when you said it was windy you was not kidding. They even if it was not a tornado they should have sounded sirens. Our town will do them if we have a bad storm with really high winds in them. Those sirens are there to give people a warning who might not know hey bad weather coming our way. Once we was watching a movie and our firnd called and ask you guys taking shelter, we were confussed. Its nice outside no rain little cloudy and about that time sirens went off. Had our friend not called the sirens would have warned us hey turn off the movie and look at the news. We had a tornado headed our way and it was not bad at all. Lesson I learned you cant judge a storm by how bad it looks outside.

Wow girl - I'm glad you're all ok - but I love the independence but - Karlee is right - wait for someone to use it with a little know how - that definitely could be dangerous in the wrong hands (hint hint - that's you by the way)

I am so glad you are OK!!! I had an ex who would not wake up when I was having a heart attack. I left the bed to go to the livingroom to call for an ambulance. The police ended up waking him up. Can you imagine waking up to having a police officer standing over your bed? LOL http://visionsofpaper.blogspot.com/

Glad to read, nothing seriues happened.Sometimes storms just come up and die down again. I life in the Netherlands and we don't have tornados. But we do have storms that just start and stop just as sudden. But they do cause al lot of damage.

Glad everyone is safe. We have had storms come near Lubbock and then due to the dry line, they break up so fast releasing such major down bursts that look like a tornado hit. Good luck with the clean up and always trust women's intuition!! My husband does!

We had a wind storm in my town last summer and it is absolutely amazing the amount of damage that can occur in less than a half hour, just due to wind. You're lucky if that's the only portion of a tree you have down. Tell your husband to have fun cleaning it up! :)

Wow, that was some super cell you must have had. Glad it was just a tree and I have a husband that would love an excuse to get the chain saw out too. Be safe with the clean up.

Well, I think your hubby will be very busy with that tree. Looks like it was pretty scary though. I have been in a tornado before (I know, you didn't have a tornado) and I will never forget it. It is awful looking up from the basement and seeing sky......Glad everyone is safe and "ready for school".

Wow, that's an impressive storm!! I'm glad everyone was OK and your house wasn't damaged. Chainsaws....my hubby saw one on sale at Lowes a while back and wanted to buy one "just in case" we ever had a big storm and he needed it for something....even though BOHT our dads have one we could borrow AND we don't even have any big trees!!!! ;) Needelss to say we still don't own a chainsaw!!!! ;)

Glad everyone is ok. It could have been what they call a "microburst". We had one last year and had a`whole lot of damage too.

Robyn, that is so scary. Living in South Florida has its own set of challenges, but these trees down are proof that something big went down in your area. You sure it wasn't a tornado????

So glad you are safe!

Robyn - i know it isnt funny what you are going through but I did have to smile. I just spent last week cutting up tree's with a chainsaw - great exercise!!! It seems this summer the weather is really creating lots of work for a lot of people. Straight line winds can be just as damaging as a tornado. Thankful that you and your family are okay. Take care!!!

Thank the good LORD no one was injured. Storms are sometimes scary enough in the day light , but to wake to a monster one in the dark and not see what is coming your way is more terrifying.
God bless your town and the clean up efforts.

Living in different areas of Texas has taught me one thing if nothing else about the weather --thunderstorms during a very hot day or a heat wave are usually a problem thing and I agree with Karlee that you should wait and let someone with experience do the work with the chain saw. They may seem simple to operate but they do have a kick-back that can be very dangerous. Glad the family is ok

Melissa said...

Wow, this brings back memories. A few years ago, my parent's farm where I grew up was completely destroyed by an F4 tornado. Nothing was left standing after that mean wind! We just thanked the good Lord that no one was hurt. I am so glad to hear that you and your family are alright!

Praise the Lord that you and your family made it through the storm ok! Straight line winds can bring just as much damage as some tornadoes can. And you are right there should've been some type of warning. So glad your family is ok!

So glad that you are all allright. We have had several storms here in West Tennessee this year and They can be very scary. Do be careful with the clean up equipment. They are not toys and you don't want to risk an injury. Cain saws can jump back at you. My mother lost a friend several years ago to a chainsaw accident.
