Listen With Your Heart - Week 2

Happy Sunday Everyone!

Well, I wasn't planning on posting my Primary Singing Time ideas every Sunday but there was such a big request last week that I thought I would share again.  In our church we each have callings or responsibilities to serve.  Mine is working with the little children ages 3-12 by teaching them to sing faith-filled songs each week.  Just to let you know, I have NO musical background.  LOL!  My family would be able to tell you that but this is where the Lord feels I should be.  I have grown so much and have gained this amazing love for these precious children.  I absolutely LOVE what I do even though it is a ton of work.  :)  It is worth it!

Here is what I posted last Sunday if you would like to see Week 1 of teaching this new song.  Click HERE.

Okay, this week I am teaching the second verse of this song.  It is posted below in the bottom pictures.  What I thought I would do to open up my lesson is ask the children if they listened this week to what the Savior would be telling them.  I will let each child tell me something (even if they didn't think about it this week) and after they share they get to pick a chocolate heart out of my HEART tin.  I want to encourage them to really think about the songs we learn every week and have a small reward on the 2nd-4th Sundays of every month.  We fast as a church on the first Sunday of every month so I don't want to bring yummy goodies into the church building on those days.  :)  I think that I would end up eating them all!  LOL!  This month I have decorated and filled a tin can with Hershey's Hearts to go along with the song we are learning.  Next month I will have something else to go along with the new song, etc., etc..

I bought this tin at Hobby Lobby or Michaels.  I can't remember exactly.
I used 2 strips of 12 x 4 1/2 pieces of patterned paper for the outside.
I had to punch hole in the sides where the handles come out.  It was a bit tricky but I got it to work.
I used chocolate and pink ribbon from Stampin' Up and Papertrey Ink for LOTS of ties on top.  These are just double knotted.
Toile was used for the outside.
The heart is cut at 2 1/2 inches and is from George.

For my lesson, I am going to have the children try to unscramble the words to the 2nd verse.  I am going to have a lot of them participate and it is going to be super fun!

I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!  I am so blessed to be able to work with the children in my church.  It brings me many blessings.  If any of you need anything please let me know.

  1. These are wonderful, Robyn! I love that you're sharing these lessons. I'm a preschool teacher, and it's so fun to see the way others tie in their cricut/craft supplies with that line of work.
    Thanks for sharing!

  15. I'm a part time teachers aide in a preschool at a catholic school and being with the children every day is a gift. We attend church once a month as a class and it's really an eye opener to see how much little ones learn about our faith and our God, no matter what church you attend. I enjoy your church videos, tfs.

  22. This might be a little long and I apologize if it is...I just want you to know that what you do is such a great blessing to those kids. I'm not sure if the kids you teach are from other members in your church or if they are bus kids but I was a bus kid. I remember the first time I took the bus to church was for vacation bible school and I was sitting on the bus thinking "these people are crazy look at them sing these songs I don't know and do crazy motions with them" lol 15 years later I stand in front of a room full of kids from 5-18 and sing songs and do motions and teach lessons and they become part of my life! I know what you mean when you say you fall in love with them! I've been doing it for years and wouldn't change a thing in the world! So keep up the great work! One day they will grow older and remember what Mrs. Robyn taught them and how sweet she was!:)

  29. Hi Robyn!!
I would wish you a blessed day...but you already HAVE ONE! The children will always have happy memories of you throughout their lives & will always remember your teachings. I am sending the beautiful song you posted for us, to my cousin who has 2 boys(5&8 - the 5 yr old is my Godson)in Poughkeepsie, NY. She isn't a "crafter" :( so she isn't familiar with your site. I know the boys go to religion classes, but she has never told me about this song. I think they will be proud to bring it to their classroom. As always, thank you so much for including us in ALL the parts of your life!

  36. I love your ideas thank you for sharing. I teach preschool sunday school. I may use some of your ideas. I want to use my cricut in many ways. To teach children about the Lord is the best. I have to think of another idea with the candy, my grandson is diabetic and sugar free candy isn't really good for us.

  40. I love your idea for primary. My kids love singing and learning new songs in primary. Their teacher put together a book of all the songs they would be learning and cd for each child to take home. My kids sing along with the cd and really enjoy it. I did something similar with tins last week for my kids for valentines day. Seeing yours gave me more ideas to add to mine. Thanks!

  46. I think it is wonderful how you are teaching these children. It's really nice to see the Cricut as an instrument for ministry. You have taken me back to when my husband and I ministered to the 6-12 year-olds. One thing we used to help the kids remember was the use of puppets - one being named Versee. She was loud and streeeetched out the words for emphasis. It was funny but the kids listened and participated. My grown kids still talk about Versee and can still sing some of those verses. Thanks for the flashbacks.
