Happy Sunday Everyone!
Our church times have changed this year so we do not start until 12:30 instead of 9:00 am. We rotate every year. It is nice for the change and the little extra sleep. :) This post is going to be a bit churchy but that is who I am. In my church I have a calling (responsibility) of teaching new songs to the children every Sunday. This is the beginning of a new year so I will have 8 songs to teach them before the end of the year. January's song is one that is new to everyone in our church worldwide. It is called If I Listen with my Heart. Such a wonderful song. I wanted to share the first verse and then share what I am going to do to help teach this to the children (ages 3-11).
If I had been a little child When Jesus lived on earthI would have liked to walk with HimAnd listen to His words,
But as I search the scripturesI can hear His words of peace,And if I listen with my heartI hear the Savior's voice.
Click HERE to listen to the entire song with words and music. It is quite beautiful with a sweet meaning to it.
I cut out 2 1/2 inch hearts on my Cricut and I am going to hand a heart out to each child. I am then going to ask them to write down what they think the Savior would tell them, if they listened with their hearts. For example, the Savior would tell me to be kind or patient if I listened with my heart. He would also tell me to not worry about things that were not important in the eternal perspective of things. :)

For the beginning activity I am going to have a child come up to the front of the room and I am going to have them tell me a story. As soon as they start speaking I am going to cover my ears. When they stop I am going to tell them to go ahead because I am still listening. I will then ask the children if they think I can really hear with my hands over my ears. It will be a great way to teach the children that when we fully listen to someone with our hearts, we give them our full attention, eye contact, and love. Just like when we are trying to listen to the Savior. If we have so many distractions going on in our lives like loud music, TV, etc. , how can we hear what He is trying to tell us?
I hope you all have a peace-filled day. I will be thinking about all of you as I attend church and keep a prayer in my heart for those of you who are struggling with something or are lonely. Just know that I love you all and am grateful for the support and friendship you have given me. Even if it is just through comments, I adore them all. :)

What a great activity and lesson for kids. It is a great idea and if you do not mind I will use it in my primary class. Since we are the only ward in our building, we start at 10 every year which is a perfect time. Have a great Sunday!

Thanks Robyn for sharing this with us... this is beautiful.

Wow, what a great way to teach the children. I'm excited to learn the new song myself. They have been coming out with such beautiful music for the primary the past couple of years.
Personally, I'm a little nervous because I have an appt today with the bishop for a new calling. Eeeek!
That is a great idea! My "calling" is food storage specialist and I wish that was yours too! It's so hard to come up with cute food storage ideas that are fun :) (Oh,we get to go to church at 11 instead of 9 woo hoo!)
Thank you for posting this today! I have started back at church this year after many years with illnesses that kept me away most Sundays...I have always admired the way the song leaders taught in Primary... and spent the first 5 years in THIS church teaching the Sunbeams. What a great message for me especially today! Bless you Sister!
Susan Cooper
That is awesome that you teach the children in your church new songs each year.

Good idea for everyone...not just children...teach them to listen to Jesus. You have a good spirit.
Thanks Robyn. I am playing the song over and over for my kids, since they too will be practicing it in primary today. TFS
Robyn stay true to who you are in your post. I love hearing about your serving the Lord. I have been teaching preschoolers at my church for over twenty years and always look forward to new ideas. It was not God's plan for me to have my own children, so He Blessed me with more than I could ever have imagined. Many of my preschooler's are parents now and they still give hugs and call me Miss Kathy.
Have a great Sunday with your family.
I love the lesson, sounds very good!! Thanks for sharing your Church things with us!! I like hearing your stories!!
Amanda

Robyn this is such a great post!! I have a bunch of LDS friends and they are the most amazing friends I have EVER had. You all have such a great heart and love for life, family and faith. It's an honor to be friends with them (and you) so I can learn and "listen" to them.
Much love.

What a beautiful song! And a great lesson, maybe you should teach the world that same lesson...I think we all need to take time out to show people how much we care by relearning the basics of manners :) I think our world has become too fast-paced for following the basic manners. You're great Robyn!
Have a great day.
Heather
Beautiful Robyn! I love hearing about how you are getting God's message to the little ones.

What a lovely post :) I love the new song and didn't know about it. I serve in the singles branch and often miss what's going on in primary, tfs :) your lesson plan is wonderful, I know the kids will love it as I have :)
Oh Robyn, don't you absolutely LOVE this song. I'm sure you don't remember me, but I'm one of the gals you met at the Orem Chuck-E-Cheese when you came to Utah for your sister's wedding. I am still the Primary pianist and I LOVE this beautiful song too. You were inspired to teach the children the song that way. I can just tell that it went over beautifully. May the Lord continue to bless and inspire you in your Primary calling and throughout your life! Much love & hugs- Glora
Oh yes, and I am loving the Faithful Sayings stamps that I got for Christmas. They are going to be perfect for all my religious cards. I have already used the baptism one for a card for my nephew. However, I'm not going to post it until after I give it to him on Saturday. Thanks again for all you do.
Robyn, what a wonderfull song! We are all children of our Lord and this will stay in these young peoples hearts and minds when they think of you. Jeananne jrtherunks42 at yahoo dot com
Hi Robyn ... I think this is why I enjoy your blog so much; it's not JUST about crafts, it's what's in your heart, and you have a great heart. I love what you do for the children, and how you incorporate your love for crafting in it. That is a beautiful song, and I love the idea you have to the children. God Bless You!

Hello Robyn, I'm not a religious person. But I do love the way you wright with such passion about it. I also have that with other people and with their passion. It is part of you as a person, so if it is "churchy" that's just fine.
Great idea and great object lesson that they'll remember for a long time. You'll receive many blessons for using your gifts for His Glory! THanks for sharing!
you are a blessed woman my friend. great work!

Thanks for sharing a piece of your heart!! I'll keep you in my prayers as well. :)
Hi Robyn!!
I have always admired you for your energy, positive attitude, finding "time" and amazing creative talents and wondered where all your patience, love & inspiration came from... now I KNOW! Our Lord is with you & smiling upon you. I will truly be trying to "listen" with my heart & fade out all the distractions.

That song is BEAUTIFUL Robyn! Thank you for sharing it with us... We should all follow the words of that song... I'm glad you are teaching it to the children... Sometimes what the children learn will come back to the parents and we will all be blessed if we listen to our hearts instead of all the noise that surrounds us...
Thanks for sharing your post today... Have a wonderfully blessed day! :o)
This is such a nice song. Tommy (my 5 year old) really enjoyed it! Thank you for sharing it with us! Your Faith is who you are. It is just as important as your family & friends, so you should always be proud to share it with us.
What a great lesson. The kids are lucky to have you teaching them
Wow!!! What a beautiful song, not just for Primary, but for all of us!! What a glorious lesson!! So simple yet so profound!!! I love your idea for teaching the meaning behind the song, as well! These children are blessed to have you serve them!!!
Hugs!
Thanks for sharing this, what a great object lesson. Thank you too for sharing your faith after all is it is and should be the most important part of who we are.
I loved reading this post, Robyn. I used to be the primary pianist. It was one of my favorite callings and that was one of my favorite primary songs (along with I Am a Child of God). Sadly, I'm unable to play anymore because of a genetic eye disorder that has caused me to loose some of my vision making it difficult to see the music. I was never able to memorize a song and play. I was always the kid that had to use their music in the recital.
This really means a lot right now. I'm in a spot of confusion so this helps a lot. Thanks.
Robyn, very inspirational. TFS. I'll have to try this the kids at my church when it is my turn to teach them during KIDS Church.
Thanks Robyn, I needed that! I'm sure it'll work well with your Children! See you tomorrow, I can't wait to see how far your new studio is coming along!
This post brought tears to my eyes robyn. Thank you for sharing this with all of us. I cant wai for my boys to learn this song. We are in a new ward and I want to be in Primary just to learn this amazing song. Its so beautiful and the way you thought of to teach it to them is just perfect.
You inspire me everyday to do better and not to be so hard on myself if things go wrong. Keep up the good work. Love checking your blog everyday. God bless.
Thank you Robyn for the inspiration today. I am struggling with marriage problems due to the health of my husband. I appreciate all the prayers and support. Sounded like a great lesson for the children of your church.
I was excited to hear that they were learning this song in Primary. I am an Activity Days leader and we learned this song to share with the girls parents last year! I think it's great that you share your "churchy" stuff with us! Have a great Sunday!
I'm in a building with 3 wards (our town total has 10 and there is only 4,500 people here!) so this year we start at 11am. It is so nice to sleep in a little too. I have not been able to attend as much as I want due to severe back problems. I LOVE this song though and thank you so much for posting it. It was a great start for my Sunday and it's going on my ipod. Thanks again! :)
What a beautiful leasson you are teaching them. We could all learn from it. It touched my heart.
Thank you for sharing it.
Cindy :)
Thanks for the lesson Robyn. My son & hubby let me sleep in today, as I have not been sleeping well with a cold and some stressing life activities. Working with the kids is so rewarding. I gave up teaching 3rd/4th grade Sunday School after 20 yrs, & helping with the youth group as my oldest is now in college. I thought I needed an adult class for me ! ! But Sunday's haven't been the same. So 2 yrs later, my other son hits the 6th grade, is in the youth choir and youth group, so I am back involved when needed this year. Life is good again. Keep up the great work!
That is so sweet that you do that for the children. It will be a great lesson for them. Thanks for sharing this with us.
I just love it! That is such a sweet lesson!
Oh Robyn!! I love it!! What a sweet sweet way to teach them such an important wonderful lesson :)
What a beautiful thing to share with the children! Have fun! Dina
What a wonderful idea. I teach preschool and kindergartern sunday school. I have to listen to the song. I am always looking for new ideas for our lil ones. Especially if I can use my cricut.
Robyn, the lesson went over great! And the kids did love it. You even kept my 3 yr olds attention. I'm so glad my kids have you in there!
What a wonderful way to teach people to listen with their hearts. I am going to use your idea to remind my own children about that. In our lives today we all get so busy that we often don't take enough time to truly listen to our heart and what He is telling us. Thanks for the great lesson.

Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
That is wonderful ! :)
I need that. I think that is a great idea for all my friends also.
Beautiful song! Thank you for all you do Robyn!
It's ok to be "churchy", the more "churchy" the better! Such a beautiful song! Thanks for all you do and stand for!

This is such a love song and a great and creative way to teach it to the kids. No one can call you "just a pretty face!"...you are a mighty Woman of God and multi-talented. Thank you for sharing this with us.
That is so beautiful Robyn! You never cease to amaze me with your talent, kindness, time management but most importantly your big heart! You are one amazing woman! Thank You for all you do to inspire us all!!

WOW 101 comments..WHEW!!you should be tired by now reading them all. I Love your idea. I do little parties with my kids. The most recent was aDog party where we learn about man's best friend and tie it into our best friend is Jesus. We had "dog food"to eat and puppy activities to do. My next one will be a True Love Waits party. My teenagers will dress in wedding dresses and tux and have a ceremony for thier rings and promise to wait until marriage. We will have white cake and all. Of course I have to pull out my cricut for decorations and invitations. I'm going to try to enter your contest. Never done one before but hopefully will get it done and entered in time. Blessings, Susan
Thanks for the object lesson. I am going to use this concept (yeah I know the Bible says thou shalt not steal but....) when I teach the Jr Church class at my church next month.

Hi Robyn, I was just called to be a primary teacher in Junior Primary myself! I was in NY for the past week so I just received the Primary Manual today at church. I met the kids today and they are just the cutest! I am so excited to teach them what I know and what I am going to learn! I also get to use my scrapbooking skills!! Robyn you have a wonderful calling on top of all else you do for your family and "us".Children are very important and need to be taught and to believe in the LORD. I lost it for awhile-long story- but thanks to my best friend Angela I found the LORD again 14 yrs ago when I had to undergo brain surgery. I have NEVER lost it again. I had another brain tumor 2 1/2 yrs ago and the dear LORD was with me and I am still here. I am so greatful to be alive and have my family and friends. I thank God for you and your site which brings me inspiration and laughs along w/some new friends. God Bless you and your family and keep you healthy and happy.
TFS I been teaching kids in Church for 11 years, I think things are done a bit differently here in Portugal but it still is the same God. I will use this lesson next Sunday, thaks.

What a great idea and love the song. Thanks for sharing your life with us and showing us great ideas. Know you have love for the Lord which makes you so special. Know the Lord has blessed us richly because you know how important it is to serve others like Jesus did.
I think I see a future Family Home Evening lesson in the works here. I've been sick for the past couple weeks and have had at least one of my 4 kids sick for the past month, so I haven't done my typical 'prepare for the new year in Primary
stuff, so I appreciate you posting about this song. It's a song I personally needed to listen to tonight and I look forward to hearing my kids sing it this year.
wow that is fantastic!! I enjoyed reading that....good luck and have fun teaching those kiddlets...LOL
Wow, Robyn, that is amazing. I love it. The children will totally love it and will learn. You are truly an inspiration to us all. Thank you so much for sharing.
That is an awesome idea for the kids Robyn!
I myself have recently gone back to church. The night of our Christmas Eve service, I prayed for my fiance to accept Jesus Christ into his heart. He didn't raise his hand that night, but as we left, my fiance announced, "I think we should start going to church". It was the most wonderful present I got this year. I am so blessed!!!
This year will be a great year, because I'm letting the Lord lead us where we need to be!
I love this! what a great lesson and song to reinforce the message. Your church is lucky to have you! Great job :) Andrea

What a wonderful way to spread His word to the children! One of my favorite *sayings* is on a cross-stitched plaque one of my students gave me years ago---"A Teacher Listens With Her Heart"--your lesson truly exemplifies this. It is obvious to all your fans that you have been blessed with a teacher's Graceful heart. Thanks so much for sharing. If you get a minute, please stop by my blog at http://karelj.blogspot.com I have a new challenge posted (with a great prize), my first ever Design Team Call is up and I'm looking for 4 more bloggers for my *I Have A Dream* blog hop! I'd love to have you join in the fun! Thanks for having such an amazing blog. I love stopping by! karelj
I love your message in this post. It is true that we must listen with our hearts. Everything begins with love. Thanks for always thinking of us.
The song is BEAUTIFUL and your message is amazing...thank you for warming my heart this morning.
What a great lesson & fun what to teach the children.
Happy New Year!!!

LOVE your method of teaching the kids! I too work with a children's choir at church...would love it if you could share your music sources! We usually do a play, but am open to just songs (if I can find just the right groups of songs, hint hint). :-)
Thanks!

What a beautiful post, Robyn! You have touched a lot of folks with this message:) We moved our meetings to the 1:00 hour (from 9:00)... being in Relief Society, I don't get to hear the Primary songs until the program in Oct. so I am really glad you posted the link. Thanks for continually inpsiring us on so many levels. Blessings to you and your family.

I shared this with my daughter. She teaches at a Christian school and the classes take turns doing chapel for the whole school. This will be perfect for her 1st graders.
Robyn we learned the first verse of this song yesterday. It is so beautiful. I'm looking forward to learning the rest of it in the coming weeks. Thanks for posting the link to the music. You saved me from trying to find it.
You are amazing. It will make a huge difference in the children's lives when they have someone to teach them about God, in a truly loving way.
Robyn, what a beautiful song TFS, Mary M

My eyes are filled with tears right now. I just gave my notice to the head of our childrens ministry that March will be my last month. I need to listen to my heart to were God wants me to go. Thanks for the inspiration. Never appologize for the love you have for Christ.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. My husband and I have been inactive for many years but recently have been feeling the prompting strongly to go back. We have tried a couple of times but have had some bad luck with wards that don't really make us feel welcome. Since we move around so much it makes it hard to make real connections. We are in a new place again and hope to get back to church. Wish us luck at finding some real connections that will keep us active in a really awesome ward!
Robyn thanks for sharing this song. We sometimes help with the children at our church and it is such a blessing.
Great lesson Miss Teacher! I love how you are going to teach it too. God bless :)
What a wonderful lesson to start off the new year with. I believe it is a very valuable tool to listen.
Thanks for keeping us in your prayers, those words are just perfect for me @ this time.
THANKS A LOT!
It sounds like you definitely have a gift of working with children and that is wonderful! Those kids are blessed to have you teaching them.

This is such a beautiful post and I'm so glad you shared it. You wrote, "He would also tell me to not worry about things that were not important in the eternal perspective of things." I needed to hear that reminder for my life today. Thank you for being God's channel for me at this moment in time.

Don't ever apologize for being "churchy". God calls us to share the gospel. He has given you so much talent and the perfect opportunity to do that through your "My Pink Stamper".

Wow! I love this song! It is so precious! I am going to do this with my kids!! What a great way to teach them that we need to give Jesus our full attention so we can listen to what He is trying to tell us and teach us! I think I will see if I can do a "Kid Church" in my church with this activity. I hope you don't mind me borrowing your idea! ;)

Robyn,
I have been reading your daily posts and they are very insightful and quite comforting. I have also been watching your videos for a few weeks now and have recently lost my best friend to a heart attach at just fifty two years old. I am really glad that I found your site and it is keeping me sane. Thanks so much. Linda from Canada
