Episode 228 - Pink ATG Gun Comparison

Happy Monday Night Everyone!

I hope you are all having a good one!  We had a fantastic (well, as fantastic as you can get with 5 active, loud children) family night.  Now it is off to bed with the children and I am about to PLAY in My Pink Loft!  Yippee!!

Here is a video I made this morning comparing the new Pink ATG gun with the older model ATG 714.  Someone mentioned on my Youtube channel that they made the new Pink ATG gun out of lighter weight plastic so we will see if it stands the test of time for a scrapbooker.  We might even use it more than a framer would.  :)

Have a super night!!

  4. Could the weight difference just be that the new one is made with a lighter weight plastic. Thanks for sharing your comparison. I bought the 714 a few months before the pink one came out, but now that my girls are starting to scrap I may just have to get the pink one too.

  6. Hi Robyn
I just got my (YEA) Pink ATG and I LOVE it...I can't compare it to the original because I do not have one, this is my very first ATG. I always thought the ATG's were awfully big and bulky to handle, well long story short it handles very easily, not as big or cumbersome as I thought. I am sooooo very happy with it. It does roll like its on butter. SWEET! Thanks for all your informative videos.
    Take care

  8. Thanks for the info, Robyn. I picked up mine at M's last week with my 40% off coupon. I never got the 714, so I thought that mine wasn't as good because it was so much cheaper! Now I know better...thanks for making me feel better about my purchase.

    I LOVE it so far!!!

  9. It's not just you! My new new feels lighter and seems like it runs TONS smoother than my 714 gun that I got about 6 or so months ago. And I've found a pretty good deal for the tape on Overstock.com in case you need to buy some more soon :). Thanks for the video! As always love watching them!!!

  10. Thanks for the comparison. I never got the ATG 714 but I was this close. I did go buy the Breast Cancer one from Michael's on Saturday evening and with my 40% off coupon it was $20.99 + tax. I felt pretty snappy leaving the store! I felt so "pink" when I use it!

Thanks again for the comparsion shopping!

  11. I just got one this weekend, Robyn! I tried to get by with a Glue Arts one from Archiver's but I wasn't happy with it at all. There is so much waste to the cartridge--not at all green. And there's only 40 feet on the cartridge! Not a good bargain at all! I'll check Karlee out when I get ready to load my new one :o)

  13. Thanks Robyn, I have an ATG but it is an off brand. It did cost me but I got 6 rolls of tape with it. I just love it because with the little glue runners, I was always frustrated with them messing up and then I would run out at the most critical moment. So to me the expense was worth it.

  14. Just got my pink ATG gun from Michael's today. Cant wait to use it. I got it from Michael's with a 40% off coupon. It was 34.99 so that made it $22 something. Great savings. Good thing I looked in the box when I got in the car. The adhesive was missing. So tooking back in & that was the last one they had. Thankfully the manager was great & replaced the adhesive for me.

  16. I can't wait to get mine! I ordered ages ago from an online store and it has been backordered... but it is on it's way! Come on Canada Post! I am going crazy!

Could you post a link to Karlee's video? I am going to check it out, but I thought it might be easier to find in the future if there is a link here too. Thanks!

  17. I love my pink ATG gun. It makes crafting sooo simple. I was constantly buying glue but after seeing you use yours, I knew I had to have one. So I put it on my list, and my wonderful hubby surprised me with it.

  18. I've had the yellow (atg 700) gun for over 2 years now and I love it! I customized it (check my avatar pic) so I will not be getting the new pink one.
I got my gun for $40 with the adapter, so I didn't spend too much, but the tape is so much cheaper, the gun pays for itself in less than a year :)
I use off-brand tape, which I've been using for a while now and never had any problems. If you are interested, contact me at

  20. I just got my Pink ATG today too. I had the same trouble you did opening the cover. My new pink one is SO DIFFICULT to open compared to my old red 714.

I think the price difference is due to supply and demand. They are now selling more volume because scrapbookers are using them, so thus they sell them cheaper because they have a larger sales volume.

  21. Got the pink ATG Sunday with the 40% coupon and the 20% coupon(good at the 4-8 sale). I have used the first of the two spools of tape making cards. Good learning curve. Like the machine. One piece I did read - lubricate with petroleum jelly. smg(underscore)gdp(at)hotmail(dot)com

  24. I bought a glue glider pro back in Dec. and was not happy with it. It kept getting off track and felt very cheap, I just didnt want to pay for the real deal i guess, but I just ordered the pink ATG and now from watching your video, I am even more excited to get it! Thanks for the informative video!!

  32. Hi Robyn!
I have always wanted an ATG ever since I started watching your videos. You always made it look so easy. When I started to research them, I almost fainted! They were like $70 & $80.00! When I saw that Custom Crops was taking pre-orders for the pink one in the beginning of June, I ordered it right away. I was a little scared though, 'cause it was cheaper, so I ordered refill tapes, just in case it was a discontinued for some reason. With shipping & all it cost me almost $50.00 & I just got it a couple of days ago, it was never getting to CC! Wish I had a Michaels near me, after reading that everyone got it under $25. BUT if it wasn't for your blog AND ALL the info & help you offer, I would've thought an "ATG" was one of those things you go riding on in the woods!! Thanks again & LOOKING SOOOOO forward to all the fun you have in store for us this week! CAN'T WAIT!!
    Hugs from R.I.

I agree that the new pink gun is lighter and it does work so much better, not sure if it will hold the 1/2 tape and that might be why it is for scrappers and the other one is for framers. I have both, so I will use the orange one for 1/2 and pink for 1/4... it was worth the wait..

It looks like a great gadget to use. I wish I had one! Maybe one day!

  35. Thanks for the comparison Robyn! I have the ATG 714 and LOVE it! I got mine from Ebay over a year ago with 12 rolls of the 908 Gold tape.... It was barely used.... someone couldn't handle it I guess and I paid only $50 for the gun with the tape.... Sooo I think I got a pretty good deal on it! :o) I've heard the new pink one is lighter... but you say it's exactly the same???? It certainly looks the same....sooo it may be lighter after all... I mean it is designed for a scrapbooker in mind... RIGHT? Anyway I appreciate the info have a great night! :o)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Glad to see you struggle with opening your pink ATG! Not to see you suffer, but mine does the same thing. I feel like I'm going to break it!!! Anyway, I also think the pink one is lighter and smoother. Either way, it's pink, and you can't beat that.

  37. thanks for the info, Robin. I have the 714 but may have to get the new one.

  44. I ordered my pink ATG and it is back ordered. I waited a long time before ordering because even though it was very affordable, I was afraid it might not work as well. I was glad to see your video. Now I feel much better about my choice. Now it just has to come in. (hate waiting)

  46. I just picked up the new ATG gun at my Michaels with a coupon, because I have noticed on comparison that the adhesive is cheaper with the ATG gun than the glue glider pro because you are getting more adhesive. I am anxious to try it out. Thanks for giving us some insight. On my way to visit Karlee to see how to lock and load my ATG gun.

  49. Hi Robyn. I noticed that you could not get your Pink ATG open. What did you do "off camera". Yesterday, I struggled and struggled to open mine. The result was a thumb nail that is broken more than 1/4" past the top of my thumb (ouch!) and a scraped knuckle that actually bled a little. Soooo, HOW did you get it open without injury???? Thanks for all your help.

Thanks for the comparison! I pre-ordered mine from Cutter's Creek (www.CuttersCreek.com) after finding they had the best price for the ATG ($26.99 regular price) and refills. Just got it last week and I love it!

They also have free shipping for orders over $50. Their quick responses to inquiries made it a pleasure to shop there. Be sure to check out their website!

  59. I ordered the Pink ATG as my first one. I saw that (they are rare, but they exist) that there is green one - kind of a minty green. But it was $90!!! I really wanted that one as green is my color - so I think I might use it pink for a while and then change the pink one green! :)

  60. I ordered a pink gun from the place you suggested on Facebook and it was under $30 and came with 2 rolls of tape. It was back ordered for almost 2 months and just arrived in time for me to put together 30 invitations for my youngest grandson's 1st birthday. It has 3 creative critters an many other pieces so I was able to break it in right. I do just love it. I am so happy I caught your facebook post for this reduced price. I just wouldn't let myself buy a gun alone for close to $50. Thanks for stearing me to the new 714 ATG, Robin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  64. I have the original ATG. Works great once I learned how to load it properly. I only use Scotch tape as the others just dont seem to glide or stick like I want. I paid $79 for mine and its about $2 or so a roll for the gold tape.

Glad we have choices on adhesive. If you are not sure, buy one for the best price, use good tape and watch Karlee's video on how to load properly.

  66. I waited almost 2 months for my pink ATG to arrive from Custom Crops. I got tired of waiting so I ordered the ATG 700 fromframingsupplies.com, it got to me in 48 hours! (They seem to have cheap prices for the tape too). The pink one does feel lighter than the 700, but I figured it was due to the different size tape. To me they are exactly the same except for the color and I LOVE them both! (You're the reason I decided to take the plunge and get them, thanks!)

    ReplyDelete
  67. I'm sure the difference between the two is that the old one is made for industrial use. Probably made to withstand years of use and abuse. The new one is made for us scrappers, and they probably think we won't throw it around too much. (They don't know many of us have kids playing in our stash!)
My honey is a printer and they often have to do jobs which require the use of ATG's. These are built for tough use.
I got one of the old ones. And I love it! But one thing to remember is when it gets a little slower, It usually because it's all gummy inside. So you just need to clean it. Just like you did when you painted your old one. Take it all apart and the wheels off then clean it with something that will take the goop off. Printers use alcohol. I used something like Go-Gone. Either way, the tape goes on much easier when you're done.
    Thanks for sharing!

  68. The new ATG gun is lighter weight (must be a different material than the original). While I was at Michaels I found the general use tape refills in the scrapbook section and no gun. Finally found the ATG gun on an endcap by the glues in a different section of the the store where I also found refills that were photo safe/acid free (perfect for scrapbookers!). Love my new ATG gun and so happy I was able to use a 40% off coupon!

  78. I have had the red ATG 714 for about a year and I really love it. The pink one appears to be lighter and runs smoother than mine. I am happy for the improvements, but I will not be purchasing the pink one anytime soon. Enjoy your ATG!

  79. 83. I agree with the idea of them being cheaper because of supply in demand. Since the ATG has become a hit in the world of scrapbooking, they have seen their sales skyrocket! Their must be more of us than framers who use the gun. Working with Michael's and Joannes is a huge marketing move. I get to go pick mine up on Friday. 95. I just bought my pink ATG at Michael's (with coupon) at the end of September. I use it almost exclusively now for cards and scrapbooking - LOVE IT!!! Mine was also very difficult to open at first, but after replacing 4-5 refills, the cover gets much easier to open. I even convinced my mom - who is also a papercrafter and has problems with arthritis in her hand - to buy one, and she loves it!!! It is much easier for her to use than some other adhesive rollers, and it is lightweight enough that she can use it for prolonged scrapping sessions!
