My Favorite Time of Year

Since most of you know that I lost some very important pictures this weekend, I am going to try harder to make sure I back them up, & also blog more of them.

On Monday nights our family has what we call Family Home Evening. It is a program designed by our church to help families designate one night a week to just family time. We usually have a lesson, sing songs, play games, and have a special treat. Now most of you know that trying to make this work with 5 little children cannot be that much fun. Well, most of the time you are right. There is a lot of noise and chaos BUT we are happy that we are able to do this. Last night was an exception and there was much peace, love and joy at our Family Home Evening.

We started out with a family prayer & by singing a favorite song (which was chosen by one of the children). We sang "I Like Bananas, Coconuts, & Grapes". Following the song our 9 year old gave the lesson. She spent 2 1/2 hours on my Cricut Sunday night preparing for this. I was amazed at how AWESOME she was with my bug! She could show us all a few tricks! Her lesson was on getting along together in the house. She talked about how we should say kind words, not fight (which they all are working on), serve each other, and just be nice. Here are some pics of her teaching her lesson.....

Do you like how she used Hannah Montana in it??!!

After the lesson we read scriptures, said the closing prayer, and then got ready for the treats! Don't they look yummy???

Did I already mention that this is my favorite time of year???

2 year olds eating caramel covered apples are just scrumptious!!

After we ate the yummy treat (okay, I had 2!), we carved a pumpkin! This is so early for us. Usually we are doing it as an afterthought ON Halloween! I even toasted the pumpkin seeds after. Yes, it was a great night!

Here are my happy children! They love to make a mess and not get in trouble!!

I hope you all are having a great week and making fun traditions for your families! I know that it is something that they will remember and cherish for the rest of their lives.

Robyn,

I am sorry to hear that you have lost some pictures, I truly know what that is like as I had to reformat my hard drive recently.

I am really glad that you and your family take a night to be together. We do that here too. Every Friday Night is Family Pizza & a Movie. Since we are working on getting out of debt, we can't spend a whole lot. So we make homemade pizza every Friday night, and rent a movie from Redbox. At a $1 per night plus tax, it is great. We even have discussions after the movie about the movie. Then it is off to bed for my 5 year old.

God bless you and your family!!! :D

What a beautiful family you have! I love the idea of setting aside an evening for family. We try to have a family game or movie night a couple of times a month, but need to make it a priority. Children dont stay small forever...... I cherish these moments with my girls.

Thanks for sharing your fun evening. Just FYI, my 10 year old made a fabulous black light story to use in teaching Bible class with the images mostly from PPDU. I was also amazed. I would have loved to see your daughter's whole story.

I remember Family Home Evening when my kids were young. I have 3 boys and I always had a hard time getting them to give the lessons. When they did it was usually about snakes or bikes. I had a hard time getting them to stick to the lessons!! They have all grown and I miss it now. Sorry about your pictures!

Thank you for sharing some of your family time with us. It is a good reminder to take the time to spend with your family. I have spent the last three nights working on models with my 7 year olds. After a long day at work that is the last thing I wanted to do but the boys don't care if Mommy is tired or not they just want their Mommy time. Seeing the joy on their faces as they worked on their models was well worth it.

Hi there! I love Monday nights just for that purpose. It's chaotic trying to get everyone settled down, paying attention, willing to participate in a lesson, etc., but when it's over, the feeling in our home is so much better. I know you know what I'm talking about. Thanks for the great pics! You're an awesome Mom.

A family that prays together stays together. Continue to be blessed in all you do. I just want to share with you a few sites on pagan holidays. To be about God's business is all the time in all areas in life even with traditions. When you want to serve the Lord with completeness... And the spirit behind Halloween isn't that of God. Sharing in love...no matter what you do in life you have to be about the fathers business. Not just being nice to others but practicing what you believe.

What a wonderful testimony--I wish more families would do this with their children. I have taught Sunday School for over 20 years and I see more and more parents who do not spend enough time teaching their children important life lessons. You are doing an amazing job. Keep up the good work and may your life always be filled with blessings.
