I Ran a 5K today!!!!!

I wanted to share this on all of my blogs today because I'm just so excited!!! I've been training to run this 5k for 3 1/2 months now and today was the day.

On the way to the run I was so nervous and didn't even think I would be able to accomplish it. My stomach hurt a touch and my leg was acting up. It was a long morning. When the race was about to begin all of the sudden I started getting really excited. Excited enough to embarrass my husband, too. :) I was majorly stretching, singing songs, and just acting so silly!!

The Race. This was super hard!!! I never really knew what to expect. There were A LOT of hills that I had to climb but, you know what? I DID!!! When I finished 1K I was amazed at how fast the time went by. By the 2K I was getting a little tired. When I got to 3K I knew that I was over halfway there. When I got to 4K I was hanging in there. I actually started crying during the last K because I couldn't believe I was really doing it. I kept thinking about my father who has passed on and how proud he would have been with me for doing this. It was so neat. My husband had finished a few minutes before me and came back to run the last 50 feet or so with me. I saw the finish line and then the clock next to it ticking the time. Something in me snapped and I ran with all my might the last bit! I finished the 5K at 30 minutes and 58 seconds!!! I ran the entire race!!!! I even passed people and for awhile there nobody was right behind me!!!

What am I going to do next, you ask?? Prepare to run a 5K in October for Susan G. Koman. This time I am going to raise funds and make it mean something incredible. My daughter, who is 11, is going to train with me this summer and run it with us. What a fun thing to do together.

Thanks for letting me share this. I knew some of you would be interested. :)

  8. Congrats, Robyn! Doesn't it feel good to do something just for you? To reach a goal and say "I - JUST ME - I DID IT" is an awesome ego boost. I used to run before the joints started saying "No more"! Running was my way of staying in shape, but mostly it was a great stress reliever. I still remember hitting that 'runner's high'. It was an awesome feeling. I'm feeling a tinge of jealousy... ;-)

  28. Okay, so I found your blog about a month ago and have been lurking and loving it. Eagerly waiting for new videos and spending money on stamps like crazy. :) I usually don't post blog comments, but just had to on this one. WAY TO GO!!! I am currently training for a half marathon (13.1 miles) in May. I was planning to do the full (26.2 miles) but my training has been messed up due to tendinitis in both of my feet. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you if you enjoy running, and raising money, and the overall feeling.. check out TeamInTraining.org. This is who I am running my half marathon with and in doing so I am raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. It's hard, but it's SOOOOOOO worth it. Thanks for the wonderful videos!!!

  62. Robin, that is just wonderful!! I admire anyone who runs as that has been something I have never been able to accomplish in all my long years. Our son is a runner and does the marathons and I am always in awe...you mentioned crying, I can understand why, to accomplish so much. I remember the first marathon our son ran (he was in college at the time) and I cried when he was almost at the finish line. I was so happy for him. And I'm happy for you and what you have done and the inspiration to other people and your daughter! You look fabulous.

  66. Robin,

Congrats on the 5K, great time! I too ran my first 5K last November (Red Cross)and this was after losing weight on WW....I used to be a runner, but never ran in a funrun...my goal is to run a 10K next March...my niece was a marathon runner and was tragically killed in the VaTech shootings...she is my inspiration and the voice that kept me going during my last 5K (March 09)...I really wanted to give up...it was cold, it was windy, and it was starting to rain...I love reading that you and your daughter are training together ... my 9 year old ran a 5K with me at Christmas (I've done 3 now...) and we plan on doing it again!

Anyhow ... congrats ... I just had to post since your experience sounded so familiar to me!!!

And THANK YOU for your videos...I LOVE my Expression because of learning the buttons!!! PC owes a big thanks to you!!!!
